The concentration of major touristic sites is really exceptional. When you are at the Hostel L’Oustal de Vézac, you just have to glance around you to see, in front of you – Marqueyssac, – famous for topiary and its belvedere which gives you an unrivalled view of the Dordogne Valley:- on your right, the fortified castle of Castelnaud, and its museum of medieval weaponry. Behind you, you can see the Medieval Castle of Beynac overhanging the Dordogne – it is one of the best preserved and visited castle in the whole of Périgord.
L’Oustal de Vézac is a perfect point to begin to travel through the Périgord and to discover the very popular Medieval town of Sarlat – capital city of Périgord Noir.
Do not forget in the Dordogne Valley there is: Chateau Beynac; La Roque Gageac; Domme, alias “the acropolis of the Perigord.”; Castelnaud-la-Chapelle… castles; fortified houses; churches; chapels; picturesque villages with their typical lanes; farmhouses; caves and chasms… without forgetting the heritage of dovecotes; Bories and the old washhouses. In addition there are beautiful, public, gardens and animal parks, too!
Not far away is:- le Lot and le Quercy regions with places worthy of a visit, ie: Rocamadour; Cahors; Gourdon; Souillac; and the Grotte de Padirac chasm.
For a gastronomic, sportive or cultural stay. We recommend the Dordogne which is so rich in scenery, places to visit; and things to do. So much so, that one visit will not be enough!
The gourmets will enjoy the famous specialities which helped to write the reputation of the Périgord: for its duck and preserves with the famous sarladaises – sautéed potatoes; accompanied by a Domme wine. And, do not forget the “foie gras” with a great Monbazillac or Sauternes; also:-truffles; ceps; chestnuts and nuts…
